Accidents happen-plan for them

No matter how prepared you are, accidents are part of puppyhood. At FSP, we remind families that potty mishaps, chewed items, and the occasional surprise puddle don’t mean training has failed—they mean your puppy is still learning. Sweetie isn’t being careless or stubborn; she’s developing bladder control, impulse control, and understanding all at once. The key is preparation, not perfection. If you catch Sweetie in the act or within a few seconds, calmly interrupt and redirect her to the appropriate behavior. If you don’t catch it in time, clean it up and move on. Scolding after the fact only creates confusion and stress, especially for sensitive, people-focused Standard Poodles. Puppy-proofing goes a long way. At FSP, we suggest removing temptations below five feet, using washable or inexpensive rugs during the early months (I learned this the hard way!), and limiting access to rooms until reliability improves. Management prevents mistakes—and puppies who practice fewer mistakes learn faster. Accidents are temporary. Consistency, supervision, and patience will carry you through this stage and into confident adulthood.
